Acne Misinformation: My Proven Process

What you’ll learn: How to find out if you’re stuck in acne misinformation
3-minute read

Acne misinformation caused my acne for 15 years, and I’ve seen it happen to thousands of others over the years. I’m passionate about making sure it doesn’t happen to you.

Before you try anything for your acne, run it through my proven process that will save you years of unnecessary breakouts.

Acne is a predictable process. We know what causes it and what treats it, and most cases can be completely cleared in 3-4 months. Yet, most people struggle with acne for years

What is acne misinformation? Any theory or idea that sounds good, but leads to no results, or worse, more acne.

Examples of trendy acne theories right now:

  • Heal your gut

  • Balance your hormones

  • Stop eating sugar, dairy and high-glycemic foods

I tried all of these 25 years ago before they were popular. My body felt great, but my skin only got worse. And I hear the same story over and over again from others. None of these things are necessary for clear skin.

Here’s my proven process you can use to make sure you don’t get caught in the endless cycle of acne misinformation:

  1. Ask for before and after photos. Before you take anyone’s advice (dermatologist, naturopath, acne expert, well-meaning strangers on the internet, your bestie) you need to make sure they’ve duplicated their acne process at least 10 times.

You’d be shocked at how many people, professional or otherwise, give advice based on their personal experience, or just a theory. The first thing I did when I found the solution for my acne was test it on 10 clients to make sure the results could be duplicated. It worked on all 10. Only then did I feel qualified to be able to help someone else.

  2. Ask how many people they’ve successfully helped. If they’ve helped only themselves or less than 10 others, they need more experience before they can help you. This will prevent you from taking advice like this: “this is what product, diet, detox, or medication worked for me or someone I know.” Trust me, this alone will save you years of breakouts

  3. Ask how long their process takes. If their process takes longer than 6 months, ask them why it takes so long. And make sure 6+ months is okay with you before you start.

If you want to wait it out while you try to heal your acne from within (I’m still trying to do this), know that you can have clear skin while you wait.

  4. 12 week timeline: Most cases of acne can be cleared in 12 weeks or less. Have you seen significant improvement in your skin in 12 weeks? Be really honest with yourself. I see people struggle with acne for years because they believe something will work for them, even though it’s not working.

You should always see enough improvement in 12 weeks to know you’re on the right track, or understand why it’s taking longer (ex: your medication or birth control causes acne).

  5. Rely on proof and results only.

My 15-year struggle with acne taught me the importance of asking the right questions to make sure I was getting the right information for the fastest result possible.

By seeing proof of effectiveness, understanding the timeline for your results, asking about the number of successful cases, and tracking the 12-week timeframe, you can avoid adding months or years to your acne journey.
