Why Acne Diets Don’t Work
What you’ll learn: Why acne diets don’t work and how yours might be keeping you stuck.
3-minute read
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this: “I healed my gut. I don’t eat sugar, dairy, gluten or high glycemic foods. I avoid foods I'm allergic to. I’ve detoxified my liver. Why do I still have acne?”
Acne diets don't work. Not only do they not work, they’re unnecessary. You can have completely clear skin without being on an “acne diet.” I’ve maintained my clear skin for 15 years without being on any acne-specific diet. And so do my clients.
If you’re on an acne diet and have been breaking out for longer than 3-4 months, the acne-diet myth might be keeping you stuck.
This is Chase. He had severe inflamed acne on his entire face and upper neck. During his virtual acne treatment, he ate sugar, dairy, and gluten, and drank 4-5 cups of coffee with cream a day. He ate chocolate and ice cream. He vaped “a pack a day.”
You've probably heard that you should avoid these things if you have acne. Yet, his skin was clear in 12 weeks, as expected.
Chase isn’t unusual. None of my clients go on restrictive diets to get their acne under control. They need to avoid and reduce a few KEY ingredients only, and otherwise live their lives normally - without acne.
I know - this is probably a big stretch from what you've been led to believe. But ask yourself: is my acne diet working? If you've been on it longer than 3-4 months with no significant improvement in your acne, it's likely not.
So, why don’t acne diets work? Because it’s not gluten, sugar, or dairy causing your acne.
Acne is a disorder of the pores called retention hyperkeratosis. This means that your pores shed and retain dead skin cells 3-5 times more than normal pores do.
In my 18 years of experience, I’ve never found a diet that’s been able to control the dead skin-cell shedding that’s happening in your pores.
When you have acne, there are only a handful of KEY ingredients you need to avoid and reduce, and they’re usually not what you think they are.
Enjoying the foods you love and having clear, healthy skin is not only possible, it’s my #1 goal for you! If you can live your life normally, you’ll be able to maintain your results long-term.
There are effective, science-backed ways to clear acne that don’t involve extreme dietary changes. You deserve to live your life fully, and enjoy your favorite foods without the constant worry about your skin.
