Are these acne myths keeping you stuck?

Let's clear up some confusion about acne - there's a lot of false information out there. We're busting the Top 3 Acne Myths that might be holding you back from clear skin.
Myth #1: Acne is a Teenage Problem
Fact: Acne doesn't just affect teenagers. Adults get it too. In fact, more than 25% of women over the age 40 have acne, and most of our clients are over 18 years old.
Acne is a gene that can “turn on” at an age, making your skin susceptible to breakouts. Other factors, like diet, hormones and pore-clogging ingredients can then trigger breakouts, once the acne gene is activated.

Myth #2: Acne is Caused by Your Diet
Fact: Acne is triggered by the “acne gene” being activated, causing your pores to fill up with excessive dead skin cells. In the majority of cases, only when your gene is activated can certain foods be a cause for your acne.
Think about it: why can some people eat certain acne-causing foods (ex: whey protein, energy drinks, peanut butter) and not break out, while in others, they cause breakouts? It's because of the acne gene! This is also why an “acne-diet” will only get you so far, and why I don't recommend them.
Pro Tip: Don't stress about your diet. There are only a few specific ingredients that are actually proven to cause breakouts. Curious what those are? Learn more here!
Myth #3: Acne is Caused by Your Hormones
Fact: Hormones can cause breakouts, but typically only when your acne gene is already activated. Plus, you can still get your hormonal acne completely under control with the right topical skincare regimen.
Pro Tip: To tell if your acne truly is hormonal, you'll need to first make sure your skin care products don't have any pore-clogging ingredients in them. Most of the time, “hormonal” acne isn't really hormonal at all, and is actually caused by clogging ingredients! Curious about the impact pore-clogging ingredients have on acne? Learn more here!
