How to use the Pore-Clogging Ingredient List
Comedogenic ingredients, more commonly known as pore-clogging ingredients, contribute to 90% of acne (you read that right, 90%!), with diet and lifestyle issues contributing to the remaining 10% of breakouts. Yet, comedogenic ingredients are the most overlooked topic in skincare and acne solutions.
All pore-clogging ingredients are rated on a scale of 1-5.
1 and 2 are considered not-clogging
3-5 rate very clogging
Every ingredient on our pore-clogging list falls in the 3-5's or very clogging.
For people with normal skin, this list doesn't mean much. However, if you have the acne gene and ingredients on this list are applied to your skin, acne will form that very day but will take 1-3 months to show up on the surface of the skin. This makes it hard to identify the connection between the clogging ingredient and the acne when it finally surfaces.
How to use the Pore-Clogging Ingredient List:
Gather all of your beauty, skincare, haircare, soap, and body wash products in front of you.
One by one, go through your products, checking each ingredient against the pore-clogging ingredients list.
At first, this may take some time, but it is absolutely worth it because identifying and eliminating these ingredients will significantly, if not completely, improve your skin. As you use the list more and more, you'll be able to recognize pore-clogging ingredients faster.
In my experience, checking all of your products is the most important part of clearing your skin. I've had many clients who have broken out significantly just from using one product containing only one or two of these ingredients on their skin or hair, even once or twice.
Once your skin is clear, these ingredients will still need to be avoided as long as you have acne (acne does go away one day). It's very easy to be less careful with what you put on your skin when you don't see the immediate consequence, but those new pimples will show up a month or two later.
Keep your skin clear! Always be sure to check the ingredients in your products before you buy them. You'll save yourself money and frustration when it comes to keeping your skin clear.
